ABSTRACT: The names of cultural relics have distinctive national characteristics and abundant cultural connotations. The accuracy and standardization of the translation of cultural relics in museums directly affects the effect of culture’s translation and dissemination. Taking cultural relics’ name from Xi’an Museum as the research object and by means of field investigation method and text analysis method, this study summarized and concluded that there were three types of problems in the translation of cultural relics’ names in this museum: terminologies were inconsistent, timeliness was insufficient, and connotations were inadequate. After that, under the theoretical framework of language economics, this study further explored the guiding role of economic principle, utility principle and cooperation principle on the practice of English translation of cultural relics’ names, with a view to further expanding the application field of language economics and providing reference for the translation of the texts in same types.
