  ABSTRACT: In recent years, the bachelor of Translation and Interpreting (BTI) programs are flourishing in China. Needs Analysis has emerged as a powerful tool in studying the curriculum design. As the first university in Qinghai province that started BTI program, Qinghai Normal University undertakes the important task of cultivating local translators and a scientific curriculum design has a pivotal role in the process. This study sets out to determine whether the current curriculum can effectively meet the students’ needs and the social needs and provide suggestions on curriculum design. An online survey provided quantitative data from 102 participants, involving students, translators and administrators from government sectors, foreign trade companies and translation companies. Evidence is presented which shows that students’ learning needs are satisfied to a large extent but there is still potential for improvement of the current curriculum.
