The Stigmatising Nature towards Type One Diabetic Students in the Education System, Their Coping Strategies and Necessary Interventions ()
ABSTRACT
This paper investigates the lived experiences of students with type one diabetes. It seeks to understand how their medical condition plays a role
in their educational attainment. The paper highlights Goffman’s theory of
stigmatization to explore how diabetic students cope with stereotypes placed on
them, and how this affects their relationships and educational path. Investigating what
diabetic students in Kuwait struggle
with academically, and how an array of bodies such as students themselves,
their parents, school staff, and Educational institutions can support type one
diabetic students succeeding on their academic journey.
