ABSTRACT

The Translation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) plays an indispensable role in better introducing TCM to the wider world as translation is a link between Chinese traditional culture and the rest of the world. Providing standardized translation of TCM disease names is of great significance to promote further cross-border exchange in a wide range. In recent years, with the ongoing opening-up and economic globalization, TCM has left a far-reading and profound impact on the world. “The Belt and Road” Initiative and its implementation as well as the explicit statement in the Outline of the Plan for “Healthy China 2030” have provided a broad platform and a crucial opportunity for TCM to trend in the globalization process. With the guidance of the translation principles of “faithfulness”, “expressiveness” and “elegance” and centering on some problems represented by identifying the translation of a disease name only by its symptom, the paper discusses the practical methods of Chinese-Russian translation of TCM disease names, providing a positive reference for the Russian translation of TCM disease names.
