ABSTRACT: The role of gut microbiome in human health is important because it stimulates the immune system and protects the body from toxic food compounds and pathogenic organisms. Food and nutrition, in addition to other factors, havе a profound impact on the microbial community in the gastrointestinal tract, on the intestinal microbiome, influencing human health. Dysbiosis and imbalances in gut microbial populations and their diversity can be associated with the development of many diseases, which can result from unbalanced nutrition and dietary changes. Therapeutic strategies were developed that utilize dietary modification. In this paper, the impact of different nutrients and diets on gut microbiome composition and functions is considered, as well as their potential for application as therapeutic modulators of gut microbiome in the prevention and treatment of serious diseases.
