ABSTRACT: This study explores the digital international communication of Chinese intangible cultural heritage Cuju from the perspective of Global South theory. Against the backdrop of profound transformation in cultural heritage communication paradigms, Cuju faces dual challenges from Western-centric narratives and digital technological hegemony. Integrating postcolonial theory with digital humanities, this research aims to construct a new communication paradigm that transcends technological determinism and cultural essentialism. The study focuses on the distortion of non-Western cultures by Western knowledge systems, the epistemological coloniality embedded in digital technologies, and cultural ruptures caused by the absence of community participation. Drawing on concepts such as “abyssal thinking” and community participation models from Global South countries, it proposes innovative communication strategies that emphasize cultural authenticity and sovereignty. The research findings contribute to understanding the adaptive application of digital technologies in the international communication of traditional sports culture, and how to achieve cross-cultural dialogue while respecting and empowering local communities.
