ABSTRACT: This study focuses on the difficulties faced by university students in English reading and aims to design a human-machine collaborative strategy based on generative artificial intelligence technology to assist in improving their English reading skills. Using a design-based research approach, the study investigates the main difficulties and strategies in English reading for university students through a literature review. Based on traditional reading strategies and the performance of AIGC tools, the study designs an AIGC-assisted English reading human-machine collaborative strategy and applies it in real teaching practices. Through three rounds of iterative design and modification, a refined AIGC-based English reading human-machine collaborative strategy for university students was developed. A comparison of pre- and post-tests shows that the strategy can significantly improve university students’ English reading levels.
