ABSTRACT: Microtransit, a demand-responsive, flexible, and cost-effective transportation mode, showcases enhanced urban mobility and can replace traditional fixed-route transit. As the implementation of microtransit requires substantial investment and operational cost, a thorough demand analysis is required to identify the appropriate transit need areas. This study addresses the gaps in the limited microtransit demand studies by proposing an innovative technique that integrates diverse demographic, geographic, traffic, and socioeconomic factors into transit propensity analysis. The proposed methodology of this study aims to provide a more accurate and tailored assessment of the micro-transit propensity score by considering diverse influencing factors and ultimately estimating the propensity score at any geographical unit level. The proposed methodology is validated through a case study of East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, using data analyzed at the census block group level. The result of the study provides valuable insights for planners and policymakers seeking to optimize microtransit deployment and enhance transportation equity, efficiency and improved access to daily life activities.
