ABSTRACT: With the acceleration of global population aging, the incidence of inguinal hernia in elderly patients is on the rise, making treatment selection an important research topic in the medical field. Traditional tension hernia repair has gradually been replaced by tension-free hernia repair due to postoperative pain and high recurrence rates. The latter significantly reduces recurrence risk through mesh technology. Laparoscopic hernia repair further reduces surgical trauma and accelerates patient recovery. Different mesh types have their own characteristics and application differences. The application of different treatment methods in elderly patients is influenced by various factors, including patients’ underlying diseases, economic status, doctors’ experience, and hospital conditions. In the future, personalized treatment strategies and precise diagnosis and treatment models are expected to provide better and more efficient treatment options for elderly patients. The author now provides a review of research on treatment selection for inguinal hernia in elderly patients, aiming to provide a clinical reference.
