  ABSTRACT: The aim of a present study is to perform a brief but clear comparison of numerous and controversial data published in the past 20 years which were focusing on the significance of structural and catalytic peculiarities of the DNA repair related Polymerases in cancer cells, as these enzymes may serve as the possible targets for new cytostatic pharmacophores. Thus, with this respect, some specific inhibitors of these enzymes such as paramagnetic divalent metal cations (25Mg2+, 43Ca2+, and 67Zn2+) and the ultrashort single-stranded DNA fragments are considered as a new, promising group of anti-cancer agents.
