ABSTRACT: Introduction: Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is not an uncommon phenomenon among patients who consulted during the assisted reproduction campaign. Objective: The aim of our study was to investigate the frequency and factors associated with premature ovarian failure (POI) in a cohort of women during the campaign for assisted reproduction at the University Teaching Hospital of Bogodogo (UTH-B) from December 15, 2022 to June 15, 2023. Methodology: We conducted a retrospective descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study from 2022 to 2023. The study population consisted of women with POI. Data were collected using a questionnaire containing the variables. We calculated frequency, crude odds ratios (crude OR) and adjusted odds ratios (adjusted OR) at a 95% confidence interval, and variables with a p-value . Results: The prevalence of premature ovarian failure was 4.42%. Factors independently associated with premature ovarian failure were irregularity of menstrual cycle [OR = 10.35, CI95% = (4.04-26.50), p = 0.001]; history of twins [OR = 3.55, CI95% = (1.63-7.69), p = 0.001]; absence of history of gestation [OR = 1.47, CI95% = (1.02-2.15), p = 0.047]. Conclusion: The study showed that POI remains a major challenge in reproductive health, due to its relatively high frequency. Action is needed to raise awareness of the signs, so that the population can be consulted at an early stage.
