ABSTRACT: With the rapid development of China’s economy, football is gradually receiving more attention. However, the development of football education in China, especially in remote mountainous areas, still needs to overcome many challenges. Against this background, significant regional sports events significantly promote football education in these regions, exerting a radiating influence. However, previous literature has not deeply explored the radiating impact and driving mechanisms of large regional events. Therefore, this paper focuses on the role of sports in poverty alleviation and sustainable support from the perspective of the 2023 Chengdu Universiade’s influence on football education at Chengguan Primary School in Leibo County. Specifically, this study employs research methods, including literature review, field surveys, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires. It explores the current state of how major events like the Universiade promote football education in remote mountainous areas through three dimensions: cultural and spiritual aspects, material foundations, and development directions. The study systematically analyzes the existing challenges and offers targeted strategies for addressing them. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the issues surrounding the impact of large regional sports events on football education in remote areas, providing valuable insights for the sustainable development and long-term planning of mountainous area football education.
