ABSTRACT: This study explores the current status of psychological contracts among teachers in private universities and its relationship with their turnover intention, while identifying the core contract elements that influence teachers’ turnover intention in private universities. The result showed that 1) the Private University teachers’ psychological contract in Shanghai presented a “moderate” degree overall, and those who occupied higher educated and higher professional qualifications teachers occupied a lower psychological contract degree; 2) the correlation between the degree of the Private Universities’ teachers’ psychological contract and their turnover intention was significantly negative; what’s more, the former was the effectively predict unit to the latter; 3) among the three dimension of the psychological contract, the development dimension displayed the most powerful predict strength of the subjectives’ turnover intention. Such results prompted the management of the teachers’ psychological contract to be brought to the forefront in private universities and suggested that the “anchor the main groups” strategy might be considered implemented in management practice.
