ABSTRACT: This research study examines the leadership styles of middle managers in higher education institutions in Basilan, Philippines, specifically this study was conducted to investigate the five types of management or leadership styles of the middle managers of HEIs in Basilan, Philippines. The study explores the prevalent leadership styles exhibited by middle managers, the challenges faced, and the opportunities in store for them, and finally this study examines how can an understanding of leadership styles of middle managers in HEIs contribute to the development of effective leadership practices in the higher education sector in Basilan. Thirty-five (35) middle managers comprised of deans, program chair, program heads, and director of program for support services were purposely selected from the four Higher Education Institution in Basilan Province, Philippines. Findings of this research will provide insights into the leadership practices in Philippine higher education institutions, helping to inform leadership development programs and strategies for enhancing educational management practices in the province of Basilan.
