ABSTRACT: As a pinnacle of Chinese classical literature, Dream of the Red Chamber is hailed as the “encyclopedia of Chinese classical culture”. The English translations of Dream of the Red Chamber by Yang Hsien-yi and Gladys Yang, as well as by David Hawkes and John Minford are selected as research materials. The study examines the translation strategies and methods used by these translators to handle culturally loaded words within the framework of the “5W” model of communication, which is Who, Says what, In which channel, To whom, With what effects. The study aims to provide relevant references for future researchers in the same field and to enhance the dissemination of traditional Chinese culture.
