ABSTRACT: This paper focuses on the impact of illegal drug trade on the social, economic, cultural, and political landscape of the region, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The argument situates the contemporary issues within the context of the region’s colonial past and examines the nexus between colonialism, imperialism, drug use and the drug trade. Through discussions of the normative social order present in LAC, the paper concludes that the nomos of LAC is significantly shaped by the illegal drug trade.
