  ABSTRACT: Based on the theory of “the image of the city” proposed by Kevin Lynch, the article will discuss the protection and renovation of historic districts from five aspects: road, boundary, nodes, landmarks and region. And in this article, we will analyse three historic districts: Nanluogu Alley in Beijing, Guangsheng Temple in Yixian, Dongguan Street in Dalian. The purpose of this discussion is to explore how to improve the status of historic district in the city.
