ABSTRACT:
Pregnant women with eating disorders are at risk for
multiple complications to both the woman and the fetus. Eating disorders are
particularly prevalent among adolescent girls and young women. This paper
suggests a road map for the obstetrician gynecologist caring for women who
either have an active eating disorder, report a history of a prior eating
disorder, or when the clinician suspects that the woman may have an eating
disorder which has not been previously identified. Proposed treatment
guidelines are outlined.
