ABSTRACT:
Plasma cell pleocytosis has been seen in
cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis of patients with multiple myeloma,
multiple sclerosis, leukemia, west nile encephalitis and lymphoma. There also
have been some anecdotal reports suggesting the presence of plasma cells in
CSF as possible early indicator of WNV encephalitis. We describe a case of
plasma cell pleocytosis in CSF due to HSV-2 meningitis, adding it to the list
of possible etiologies for the same.
