Abstract: |
In 1973, homosexual has been removed
from DSM-III-R. However, some negative homosexual stereotypes still exist in
our society nowadays, which made homosexual people/individuals facing lots of
unequal treatment in their lives. Such disadvantageous prejudices and discriminations
might impact their “coming out to the public” or not in a serious way.
According to the literatures, “interpersonal relationship”, “self-esteem” and “autonomy
support” items can predict the outness level of homosexual people effectively. In
the formal study, the reliability and validity of the questionnaires had been
examined; all items used in the formal questionnaires were checked by experts,
and thenTaiwanuniversity students as participants (N = 122) completed the pretest. The result
shows that items “interpersonal relationship questionnaire (Cronbachα = .93)”, “self-esteem
questionnaire (α = .90)”, and “autonomy support questionnaire (α = .95)” both
have high reliability and validity, and are appropriate to be used in further
studies. In the further studies, homosexual individuals will be used as
participants to examine that: (1) Relationships among items “interpersonal
relationship”, “self-esteem”, “autonomy support”, and “outness level”; (2)
Whether above three items can predict “outness level” efficiently in the same
way. More details are discussed in this article.
