Abstract: |
In traditional ecological education, the teachers usually prepare the course contents and navigation route in advance. Therefore, not only the teaching materials are limited by the ability of the teachers in teaching material preparation, but also the students are situated in passive learning environment. It will result in poor effectiveness of learning. Accordingly, this research utilized the ubiquitous learning as the core concept, and applied RFID technology as the tool of location-aware applications. In the learning and pedagogical strategies, inquiry-based learning and scaffolding learning are adopted in this research. Moreover, the Phoenix Valley (Fonghuanggu) Bird Park in Nantou County is the location to construct ubiquitous teaching and learning environment of bird life for our study. In this research, 60 third-grade elementary school students in Taichung City participated in this study. Those students are fairly divided into two groups, experimental group and control group. The students of the experimental group are administered inquiry ecological education about birds. Oppositely, the students of control group are instructed by traditional ecological education about birds. In the experimental process, three stages of learning, diagnosis and assessment are implemented to determine the learning performance of the students. The differences of the learning performances between two groups of students are compared in order to provide appropriate learning materials to the learners at right time and at right location. It can not only increase their interest and willingness of learning, but also improve their effectiveness of learning.
