Abstract: |
In 1991 the Government of Singapore issued a “White Paper on common values,” trying to launch five “shared values” accepted and recognized by various nationalities, all walks of life and people of different religions in Singapore, that is, “country above self, social interests come first; family-rooted, community- based; care and support others, respect for the individual; seek common ground, reach a consensus by negotiation; promote racial harmony and religious tolerance.” More than a decade, the Singapore government steadfastly advocated and firmly practiced the common values, achieving ideal effects, which promotes the economic development of Singapore, stabilizes the political situation and maintains a good social order. The successful experience of Singapore is of great inspiration to the construction of a socialist harmonious society in China.
