Abstract: Current mobile internet access authentications are mostly established directly over link-layer, leaving mobile terminals unable to roaming in networks with different link layer technologies, which is detrimental to taking full advantage of network resources. By applying IP-based authentication, it would be safe to slide over the discrepancies of link-layer technologies and adopt a general-purpose authentication protocol. The protocol shall wipe off the trouble of deploying various kinds of link-layer authentication and shall facilitate the construction of the mobile communication infrastructure.
