ABSTRACT

The study sought to assess the effects of covariates on the survival time of HIV patients on Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART). The average age of patients is 36.09 years with a standard deviation of 10.31, the minimum and maximum ages were 11 and 84 years, respectively. Majority (69.30%) of HIV patients on HAART were females. Weight, HIV Type, WHO Stage, TB result and Age are the main factors that influence CD4 count of HIV/AIDS patients. For every unit increase in age of a patient, survival decreases by 3.00%. The survival time for a female patient is 13.50% higher than that of a male patient. There is a need for patients on HAART to be educated on proper management of their personal lifestyle, including weight management, to improve treatment success.
