ABSTRACT

The Youlan Spring Well is the only relic of Song Dynasty in Jiashan. Start from Youlan Spring, and through sorting out the social and personal backgrounds, this paper then discovers “Youlan Spirit” as the unique trait of literati in Jiashan. Compared with the reclusive culture in Jiangnan since the Song Dynasty, Jiashan literati’s reclusiveness and lofty spirit of not caring about personal gains and losses have been passed down from generation to generation, just like the Youlan Spring hides and stays through dynasties. Promoting the “Youlan Spirit” through the form of ideological and political course is of great significance in enhancing the cultural status and social influence of Jiashan, as well as cultivating the cultural self-awareness and sense of historical responsibility of the students.
