Research on the Impact of Corporate Social Responsibility and Performance under the Background of Carbon Neutralization ()
ABSTRACT
Under the background of global carbon neutrality,
all sectors of society pay more attention to corporate social responsibility
and sustainable development. The scores of environmental protection, social
responsibility and corporate governance of enterprises (ESG) have been regarded
by most countries in the world, as the micro-level reflection of the concept of
sustainable development, which is closely related to corporate performance and
high-quality development. Many scholars have failed to reach a consistent
conclusion on the research on the influence of ESG on enterprise performance.
This paper uses the data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2015 to 2021
to explore the influence of ESG quality on enterprise performance and its
mechanism. The results show that the quality of ESG can promote the performance
of enterprises, and innovation investment can inhibit the positive effects of
ESG. Further research shows that ESG scores do not show heterogeneity in
heavily polluted and non-heavily polluted industries, but ESG scores have a
significantly positive influence on the performance of non- state-owned enterprises. This study enriches the previous literature, and
the research results are conducive to promoting enterprises to improve the
quality of ESG information disclosure, and provide useful reference for
departments to design policies about high-quality development.
