Special Issue on Joint Replacement Surgery
Joint Replacement Surgery is a procedure of
orthopedic surgery performed to relieve pain and restore the integrity and
function of a joint by realigning or reconstructing the joint. It is a form of
arthroplasty which is usually indicated from various joint diseases, such as
osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Joint resection involves removing a
portion of the bone from a stiffened joint, creating a gap between the bone and
the socket to improve the range of motion. Interpositional reconstruction is
procedure to reshape the joint and add a prosthetic disk between the two bones
forming the joint.
