Based on the author’s summary and reflection on the main theme of this book, childhood education and sustainable development have an interactive relationship between them and their long-term significance to the future society. Early education refers to education for children in their early life stages, especially 0 - 6. The critical period of early childhood education is considered to be an important stage for shaping an individual’s basic personality, cognitive structure, and learning ability [6]. Sustainable development emphasizes meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Combining means that early education needs to cultivate children’s awareness of environmental protection, promote the rational use of resources, and guide them to form a sense of responsible social citizenship. From the perspective of educational content, the connotation of sustainable development should be integrated into all aspects of early education. For example, through storytelling, games and other forms, children can understand the mysteries of nature, recognize the impact of human activities on the environment, and inspire their desire to protect the environment. In addition, sustainable early education could also be carried out through daily practical activities, such as saving water and electricity, and garbage sorting, so that children could personally experience the importance of a sustainable lifestyle.

In terms of educational methods, the use of game-based learning and situational simulation could increase children’s interest and participation in sustainable development issues. This highly interactive teaching method helps children learn through play and cultivates their problem-solving skills and teamwork spirit, which are necessary qualities for achieving sustainable development goals [7]. From the perspective of educational effects, the combination of early education and sustainable development helps to form an environmentally friendly culture across generations. When children establish correct environmental connotations from an early age, as they grow up to be the main members of society, they will pass on their sustainable development connotations to a wider social group, thus promoting the entire society to develop in a greener and more environmentally friendly direction [8]. The relationship between early childhood education and sustainable development is mutually reinforcing. Through early childhood education, a new generation with sustainable development awareness and a sense of responsibility could be cultivated, laying a solid foundation for achieving the goal of sustainable development. This requires not only the joint efforts of educators, but also the support and cooperation of families, society and even the government [9]. Through games, stories, practical activities and other forms, children could learn and experience the connotation of sustainable development in their daily lives.

It is meaningful to promote the connotation of sustainable development education to higher education [10]. With the accelerated development of globalization and urbanization, environmental problems are becoming increasingly prominent, and more talents are needed to meet these challenges. Therefore, higher education institutions should integrate the connotation of sustainable development education into curriculum design and teaching practice to cultivate students’ environmental awareness and social responsibility. At the same time, they should also strengthen cooperation with early childhood education to jointly promote sustainable development education. There are several key points to note in promoting sustainable development in early childhood education and higher education. First, educators should have relevant knowledge and skills so that they can effectively teach the connotation of sustainable development. Second, educators should create an open and inclusive learning environment to encourage students to actively participate and express their own views. Finally, interdisciplinary cooperation should be strengthened to integrate professional knowledge and skills from different fields to jointly promote sustainable development education. In short, sustainable development in early childhood education and higher education is an important issue in today’s society.
