Special Issue on Research on Aquatic Ecosystems

Most of the water on our planet is in the oceans that cover 71 percent of Earth's surface. Less than 1 percent of all the water is considered freshwater, and most of that is frozen in the polar ice caps. The study of freshwater aquatic ecosystems, limnology, has often been separated from the study of marine systems, oceanography. Although freshwater and marine ecosystems are extremely diverse in structure, all of the plants and animals must live in or on water. The physical constraints and opportunities for life in water, and how all of these living organisms interact with each other in a liquid medium, give a unifying theme to aquatic studies. As one of the most important and timely research fields of human life, aquatic ecosystems are of great attraction to researchers.

In this special issue, we invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original research and review articles that explore aquatic ecosystems. In this special issue, potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Aquatic plants
  • Aquatic organisms
  • Diversity of habitats
  • Water, land, people, and wildlife
  • Freshwater aquatic ecosystems
  • Aquatic ecosystem health
  • Water and ecosystem initiatives

Authors should read over the journal’s For Authors carefully before submission. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal’s Paper Submission System.

Please kindly specify the Special Issue” under your manuscript title. The research field “Special Issue – Research on Aquatic Ecosystems” should be selected during your submission.
