Special Issue on Financial Economics
Financial economics is the branch of economics characterized by a "concentration on
monetary activities", in which "money of one type or another is
likely to appear on both sides of a trade". Its concern is thus the
interrelation of financial variables, such as prices, interest rates and
shares, as opposed to those concerning the real economy. It has two main areas
of focus: asset pricing and corporate finance; the first being the perspective
of providers of capital, i.e. investors, and the second of users of capital. It
thus provides the theoretical underpinning for much of finance. "Financial
Economics" is an academic discipline that examines the intersection of
finance and economics. It primarily focuses on the allocation and management of
financial resources in various economic systems. This field explores how
individuals, organizations, and governments make decisions about saving,
investing, and allocating their money to maximize their wealth and achieve
their financial goals. The goal of financial economics is to provide insights
and tools to help individuals, businesses, and policymakers make informed
financial decisions, allocate resources efficiently, manage risk, and
understand the functioning of financial systems. Additionally, it contributes
to the development of financial theories and models that enhance our
understanding of how financial markets operate and influence the broader
economy.
