ABSTRACT: The
presumed hairs of Holy Maria-Magdalena are studied here for mineral particles
found on their surfaces, by the techniques of scanning electron microscopy
coupled with energy dispersive X-ray. Exploration by these techniques of the
hair surfaces allows us to observe and study some marble fragments that can originate from the walls of the sarcophagus in which
Maria-Magdalena’s remains were kept. These new findings support the authenticity
of the hair as traditionally reported in the French “tradition des Saints de
Provence”.
