ABSTRACT: The
adsorption of the cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTMA)
from aqueous solutions on attapulgite was studied. Attapulgite is a clay
mineral that has many applications, especially in agriculture and industry. It
has not been studied extensively compared with other clay minerals for its
sorption properties in environmental applications. In the present work the adsorption
capacity of CTMA on attapulgite was found that was high and was mostly due to
ion exchange mechanism. Furthermore, the experimental data fitted well to the
Langmuir isotherm.
