The Research and Exploration of “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics” in the Financial Practical Talent Cultivation with the Core of Moral Education: Taking the Major of Finance and Economics in Sichuan University of Arts and Science as an Example

Abstract

Today with the rapid development of economy and society, the power of science and technology, the continuous learning, understanding and application of knowledge are playing a crucial role in developing talents. Universities are the cradle of cultivating talents. At present there are numerous universities in China, symbolizing that a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend. Each university has its own characteristics and highlights. However, the mirror of market economy clearly reflects a large number of high-ranking intellectuals’ corruption, duty crimes and serious violations of financial discipline, which poses a severe challenge to the university talent cultivation. Therefore, university needs to keep pace with the times, change with the times, innovate constantly, and formulate scientific and real-time talent cultivation program guided by the market. This paper studies the epochal character of “curriculum including ideology and politics” in the financial and economic talent cultivation with the core of moral education. Taking the financial and economic majors of Sichuan University of Arts and Science as an example, this paper uses the methods of literature research and investigation, and studies the connotation, core elements, and the coupling degree of talent cultivation of “curriculum including ideology and politics”, further puts forward the operation mechanism of “curriculum ideological and political” for the cultivation of professional talents for financial and economic major in Sichuan University of Arts and Science.

1. Introduction

With the progress of the times and the improvement of material living standards, people attach more importance to the enjoyment of material life and ignore the shaping of ideology. In the past university’ talent cultivation, more attention was paid to the students’ basic theoretical knowledge and the cultivation of professional skills. After graduation, most graduates could utilize the learned knowledge into practice and contribute their wisdom and strength to their jobs. However, some other graduates do not use their knowledge to contribute to the corporation and society. On the contrary, they commit illegal acts, causing heavy losses to the corporation and country. According to the statistics revealed by relevant departments, the number of duty crimes committed by intellectuals who have received higher education in their posts is increasing year by year, 43% of which are engaged in financial and economic professional crimes revealing a large proportion.

Finance and economy are the lifeblood of the corporation. People with firm ideological belief, sober political position, ironic discipline and financial consciousness are needed to control the financial funds of the corporation. Therefore, when the new era approaches, university should put more emphasis on the education of “professional ideological and political education” and “curriculum including ideology and politics” for students, and get well prepared for cultivating compound talents with both ability and political integrity.

2. The Connotation and Essence of “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics”

2.1. The Connotation of “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics”

“Curriculum including ideology and politics” is a kind of cultivation of talents’ ideology, a way of foster virtue through university education, and a manifestation of universities keeping pace with the times. The essence of curriculum including ideology and politics is to combine ideological and political education with professional universities talent cultivation, ideological and political courses with professional courses so that they can serve the cultivation of talents in the new era and provide guarantee for the healthy development of market economy.

2.1.1. “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics” Aiming at Cultivating New Youth

Today, we live in an era of great social change. Many new economic factors are constantly sprouting and developing. Big data collides with some traditional economic models, causing the higher demand for financial talents. However, in today’s society, there still exist some financial practitioners using their own convenience to do things that harm the country and society. The reasons are that they fail to receive a good ideological education or their ideological awareness fails to keep up with the professional requirements.

Taking the financial and economic talent cultivation as an example, financial and economic talents are required to have professional ethics such as honesty, objectivity and justice, as well as good social responsibility and professional ethics (Zhu, 2019: p. 84). Therefore, it is urgent to strengthen the task of training new financial youth in line with the new era, which requires that ideological and political education should be integrated into the professional curriculum while cultivating financial talents.

2.1.2. Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics Taking the Whole Process and All-Round Education as the Education Concept

The progress of society has put forward higher requirements for contemporary youth in ideology. Through curriculum including ideology and politics, ideological education is integrated into university education so as to truly realize the whole process and all-round education. With the university education better docking with the society to help contemporary college students with the best posture and the best state into the society, quickly adapting to the society, they better contribute to the country and the people and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The concept of financial and economic talent cultivation which includes the combination of curriculum including ideology and politics and professional knowledge and skills training in the simultaneous ideological, political and professional education, has a subtle impact on the ideas of auditors so that they have integrity, fair ideological and moral cultivation and excellent scientific and cultural qualities.

2.1.3. The Education Model of “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics” Is Based on the Combination of Division of Labor and Coordination

The document on further Strengthening and improving the ideological and political education of university students issued by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council clearly points out that the complex moral education activities of universities should not only be undertaken by the ideological and political teachers, but all teachers have the responsibility. The role of teachers is not only to impart knowledge and dispel doubts, but also to guide ideological value and shape personality. The reform of “Curriculum including ideology and politics” requires all university teachers to pay attention to the cultivation of ideological education, whether they are professional or ideological and political teachers. Both of whom should value the cultivation of students’ ideological and moral education. Professional teachers should integrate ideological and political elements into professional knowledge, and ideological and political teachers should make ideological and political courses contain the soul of professional courses so as to achieve a real concordance. Curriculum including ideology and politics should focus on integrating ideological and moral cultivation into the discipline, highlighting the function of education guiding and political shaping. Ideological and political education and professional education are both talent education, but they belong to different aspects. The coordination of the two is essential in order to achieve comprehensive education.

2.2. The Core Elements of “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics”

2.2.1. The Essence of “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics”

The essence of curriculum including ideology and politics is a change of educational concept. It is a re-integration of university’ political and ideological education and professional education (Xi, 2018). It optimizes the part, makes each part optimal, and then achieves the best goal with the best scheme. From its essence, curriculum including ideology and politics is a kind of concept adjustment, which means that the state and educational institutions adjust the superstructure based on the current social situation in the era of great change so as to adapt the superstructure to the development law of economic foundation and promote the healthy development of society.

2.2.2. The Goal of “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics”

“curriculum including ideology and politics” provides ideological education to contemporary university students through the channel of course, guiding them to set up correct life goals and choices, making students achieve consistency in major and thought, reducing corruption and violation of financial discipline among financial and economic practitioners, further influencing university students’ values, outlook on life and the world invisibly, and leading them to set up three exact outlooks. By following this pattern can high-quality practical talents with “three hearts, four abilities and five combinations” be cultivated for the purpose of achieving the goal of moral education.

2.2.3. The Main Body of “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics”

As the subject of moral education, all university teachers are naturally the subject of curriculum including ideology and politics, and they should also play a main role. It is necessary to take a comprehensive view of ideological and political education, set up the overall concept, and remember not to put all students’ ideological education on ideological and political teachers. Students’ ideological and moral cultivation is inseparable from any link of their growth. Teachers of professional courses or any other course should act as a guide and build an ideological protection barrier in students’ minds.

3. A Coupling Analysis between Finance and Economics Talent Cultivation and “Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics” in Sichuan University of Arts and Science

According to the four documents issued by Sichuan University of Arts and Science in October 2019, through the study and understanding of the four documents, this paper makes a serious analysis and research on the 2016 version of undergraduate talent cultivation objectives of finance and economics majors, and realizes that there is a lack of close connection between the finance and economics talent cultivation and curriculum including ideology and politics. It is vital to establish its scientific and close system in order to better integrate the ideological and political education into the 2020 version of undergraduate talent cultivation program of finance and economics majors, integrate the “curriculum ideological and political” into university education. We should combine the purpose of curriculum including ideology and politics, take the ideological and political course as the guide, and cultivate financial and economic talents with solid professional skills, good professionalism, integrity, objective and fair professional ethics.

In recent years, most universities in China have carried out the practice and exploration of the system of “curriculum including ideology and politics” according to their own situation, but through some information, we know that there are few courses concerning financial talents cultivation. At present, our university is also in the “322” ideological and political system, the reform of curriculum including ideology and politics is carried out steadily, but the integration of professional and ideological and political education is not enough, the connection between the two is not close and obvious, both of them are like an independent individual, how to achieve the close connection and integration of the two is one of the problems we need to solve most. Nowadays, financial courses are characterized by a high degree of theoretical knowledge generalization. Students can understand the concept of professional knowledge but can not make full use of it, which leads to misuse, thus violating the law of economics. The way to solve these problems is the meaning of curriculum including ideology and politics. It needs to integrate the two and complement each other by emphasizing financial ethics in financial courses. The combination of financial and economic talent cultivation and “curriculum including ideology and politics” in Sichuan University of Arts and Science is far from enough. After one semester, students’ professional knowledge and ideological and political education are basically unrelated. Professional and ideological and political education are separated. Moreover, there are few courses of ideological and political education, and professional knowledge and technical education are only limited to the imparting of knowledge, which fails to integrate ideological and political education into professional knowledge. Students’ professional ethics and scientific and cultural cultivation are not synchronized, which leads to the lack of ability to adapt to society and work after graduation.

Nowadays, our university has set up the course of “curriculum including ideology and politics” in the financial and economic talent cultivation, which is based on moral education. It is committed to the ideological and political education throughout the whole process of talent cultivation. Through the research, we should strengthen the coupling degree between the financial and economic talent cultivation and curriculum including ideology and politics in Sichuan University of Arts and Science so that the ideological and political course has the “soul” of the professional course, and sublimate the “soul” of the professional course so much so that the two can reach an inseparable close degree and the two can promote each other and make common progress. We should cultivate more young people who meet the new requirements of the new era, contribute to the socialist construction and shoulder the responsibility of youth. These tasks require that curriculum including ideology and politics and professional education reach a high degree of agreement, and change the current state of separation. In today’s society, the cultivation of financial professionals is aimed at moral cultivation such as honesty, objectivity and justice, and solid professional knowledge and ability reserve, which is also in line with the connotation and essence of “curriculum including ideology and politics”. Therefore, the integration of these two views puts forward higher requirements for today’s higher education and for teachers of higher education. Integrating the two is an urgent task.

4. Construction of Curriculum Including Ideology and Politics Operation Mechanism of Finance and Economics Talent Cultivation in Sichuan University of Arts and Science

4.1. Integrating Ideological and Political Elements into Finance and Economics Class

1) With the continuous progress of today’s society and the emergence of big data and internet, the traditional economic model has been greatly impacted, and higher requirements have also been put forward for the cultivation of financial talents in universities. Only relying on professional knowledge and skills can not meet the social needs and keep up with the development of the times (Chen & Ma, 2019: p. 178). In order to cultivate new youth in line with the new era, we can let students know through some case studies what serious consequences will the lack of professional ethics and values bring to our society.

2) Case study is only one method of combining ideological and political elements with financial lessons. We can also expand the relevant knowledge through teachers in the classroom, which can not only expand the ideological and political education of students majoring in finance and economics, but also increase their knowledge reserve so as to lay a foundation for us to cultivate high-quality talents.

3) Through a series of ways such as case study, we can not only mobilize students’ enthusiasm for learning, but also lead students’ Three Outlooks imperceptibly. We can also let students understand some knowledge related to economic laws and regulations, and have a certain understanding of economic disciplines. In practice, we can make university students achieve both legal compliance, integrity and objectivity. In order to cultivate students’ social responsibility and professionalism, the socialist core values should be integrated into the finance and economics lessons.

4.2. Integrating Ideological and Moral Cultivation into Course Teaching

1) In the daily course, some specific theories can urge students to understand what is the moral cultivation and professional quality that financial professionals need to possess. A two pronged approach be conducive to the cultivation of students’ professional knowledge and ideological and moral education, improving students’ social quality, creating a good atmosphere for social and economic development, and reducing other adverse social trends such as corruption.

2) Practice is the only standard to test the truth. On the basis of a certain understanding of theoretical knowledge, students can experience it by themselves through some activities and social practice so as to deepen their impression of financial theory and work requirements, truly let students understand what can be done and can’t be done, and let students have a certain understanding of morality and quality by way of keeping cycling for a impressive effect.

3) Deepening students’ understanding of values and professional quality through exercise and examination.

a) Practice can enable students to consolidate their financial professional knowledge, and also be able to fill the gaps. Through the examination, students can be urged to consciously learn and understand the professional quality, and the relevant teachers can work out the corresponding exercises to check the students’ learning progress and learning effect so as to deepen the students’ impression and understanding of values and professional quality so that students can have a very deep impression on their bad professional behavior and morality in the process of completing the assignments, which are helpful for their future work.

b) “Curriculum including ideology and politics” is a kind of guidance to students’ values and professional quality, but the formation of values is not an instant thing. It needs our continuous guidance, the examination and exercise can be said to be a task that takes a long time to review, and these two ways can gradually guide students to form correct values and professional quality.

4) Integrating “Curriculum including Ideology and politics” into the elements students are interested in to form their own understanding of values.

a) Finance and economics major is a text-oriented subject, which needs to memorize a lot, and sometimes the content is boring, so if we want to mobilize the enthusiasm of students, we need to integrate some things that students are interested in, and these things should also include the relevant content of ideological and political courses, so that students can not only gain professional knowledge but also receive ideological and political education.

b) It is no doubt that learning finance and economics courses can not only rely on interest, arrange the corresponding test questions, understand the views of each student, let them consciously find their own world view, form their own view of the world. It is also a kind of performance of ideological and political education into the classroom. With ideological and political resources to guide students’ moral cultivation, become builders of the new era, with lofty road, theory, system, cultural self-confidence to contribute to social and economic development. Through the output of high-quality personnel training, universities provide talent support for financial and economic posts, and make full use of the political theory of ideological and political courses to cultivate professional talents with both ability and political integrity.

5. Conclusion

According to the thought of universities talents cultivation in the new era, combined with the 13th five-year development plan of Sichuan University of Arts and Science, from the perspective of finance and economics major in Sichuan University of Arts and Science, this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the connotation and essence of “curriculum including ideology and politics” of finance and economics major, defines the essence, subject, goal and other core elements of “curriculum including ideology and politics”, and then takes the finance and economics major of Sichuan University of Arts and Science as an example. By analyzing the coupling degree between the cultivation objectives and the “curriculum including ideology and politics”, it finds out the inevitable relationship between the two, and finally constructs the operation mechanism of “curriculum including ideology and politics” for the talent cultivation of finance and economics majors in Sichuan University of Arts and Science, which provides a reference for the subsequent revision of the 2020 talent cultivation scheme.
