ABSTRACT: An organic nonlinear optical (NLO) single crystal has been synthesized by slow solvent
evaporation technique from aqueous solutions of L-serine and sodium fluoride (NaF) at
ambient temperature. The grown crystal was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction
analysis. The powder X-ray diffraction of the grown crystal was recorded and indexed.
The functional groups of the grown crystals were determined by FTIR spectrum. The
optical absorption study reveals that the transparency of the crystal in the entire visible
region and the lower edge was found to be 258 nm. Relative powder second harmonic
generation (SHG) efficiency of the grown crystal was tested by Kurtz and Perry powder
technique using high intensity Nd:YAG laser operating at 1064 nm.
