Adolescent health, or youth health, is the range of approaches to preventing, detecting or treating young people’s health and well being. Young people's health is often complex and requires a comprehensive, biopsychosocial approach. Some young people engage in risky behaviours that affect their health and therefore the majority of health problems are psychosocial. These behaviours are established as a young person and go on to become the lifestyles of adults leading to chronic health problems. Social, cultural and environmental factors are all important.

In this special issue, we intend to invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original research and review articles on adolescent health. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

• Adolescent medicine and diseases
• Chronic health problems
• Drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sexual problems
• Adolescents and gender issues
• Mental health and depression
• HIV prevention
• Adolescent pregnancy
• Obesity, nutrition and eating disorders
• Psychosocial assessment of adolescents
• Adolescents with cancer
