Special Issue on Economics of the Household

Most of economic theory assumes that human beings spend their life alone. In reality most of us live in families and our decisions are taken collectively as a couple, often with children, and economic incentives are at play as well in intra family interactions. In this special issue, we focus on different aspects of such interaction from both theoretical and empirical perspectives.

The issue on “Economics of the Household” will be focusing on the economic behavior and decision-making processes of single and multi-person households. Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  •    Household consumption and saving
  •    Labor supply and allocation of time to household production and leisure
  •    Child-related topics such as fertility and parental investments in children's wellbeing
  •    The demand for health and other forms of human capital
  •    The demand for environmental and other public goods
  •    Intergenerational relations including bequests and care of older relatives
  •    Household formation via cohabitation, marriage or independent living
  •    Divorce and separation
  •    Migration
  •    Marriage-related transfer payments
  •    Financial relations among partners and spouses
  •    Macroeconomics of the household

In this special issue, we intend to invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original research and review articles on exploring Economics of the Household.
