Special Issue on Optical Properties of Materials

When materials are exposed to electromagnetic radiation, it is sometimes important to be able to predict and alter their responses. This is possible when we are familiar with their optical properties and understand the mechanisms responsible for their optical behaviors. For example, we note that the performance of optical fibers is increased by introducing a gradual variation of the index of refraction (i.e., a graded index) at the outer surface of the fiber. This is accomplished by the addition of specific impurities in controlled concentrations.

By “optical property” is meant a material’s response to exposure to electromagnetic radiation and, in particular, to visible light. The issue on “Optical Properties of Materials” will be focusing on the latest development in this field. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: the optical behaviors of metallic and nonmetallic materials in terms of their absorption, reflection, and transmission characteristics; luminescence, photoconductivity, and light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (laser); the practical utilization of these phenomena; optical fibers in communications.

In this special issue, we intend to invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original research and review articles on exploring Optical Properties of Materials.

Authors should read over the journal’s Authors’ Guidelines carefully before submission. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal at Paper Submission System.
