Special Issue on


Intelligent Information Processing in 

Metro Train Safety-Critical System and Application


China will soon become the world’s largest economy. And yet, we know very little about intelligent information processing in metro train safety-critical system and application in mainland China. This special issue will bring together innovative research in this emerging field. This journal is ideally suited for this special issue as it falls within the scope of the journal. The journal special issue will be a platform for researchers in this field to exchange their experiences, discuss challenges and present original ideas in all aspect of its system, applications and technologies. The purpose of this special issue is to improve our understanding of these issues.


TOPICS: Topics for the special issue can include, but are not limited to:

       Ø  Train operation hidden danger excavation technology research and application;

       Ø  Train key equipment fault diagnosis method and implementation;

Ø   Large capacity data transmission technology and system from vehicle-mounted subsystem to ground data center;

Ø  Train safety testing sensor network technology architecture and implementation;

Ø  Train operation safety monitoring and early warning integration mode and implementation;

1. Limin Jia

Limin Jia, born in 18th January, 1963. He got B.SC in Control Engineering from Shanghai Institute of Railways, M.SC and Ph.D in Information and Control Engineering from China Academy of Railway Sciences(CARS), in 1984,1987 and 1991 respectively. He was appointed as Associated Research Professor and Research Professor respectively in 1992 and 1994 in CARS, and has moved to Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) as Professor since 2004. He is now Professor and Chief Scientist of State Key Lab of Rail Traffic Control and Safety with BJTU. His research has been mainly focused on Intelligent Computation, Intelligent Control and Systems, Complex System modeling and Control, Intelligent Information Processing for Automation, Safety Science and Engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems. He is the author or co-author of about 200 indexed papers internationally and domestically published, 9 monographs and 5 textbooks. In additional to his professorship duties, he is now working as the Distinguished Consulting Expert to the Ministry of Transportation of China, Head of the Standing Expert Group of National Program on High Speed Railway S&T Development of the Ministry of S&T of China, Deputy Head of the Standing Expert Group of National Jointed Program on High Speed Railway S&T Innovation of the Ministry of S&T and the Ministry of Railways of China.

2. Yong Qin

Yong Qin received the undergraduate degree in traffic control engineering from Shanghai Railway University, Shanghai, China, the M.S. degree in transportation automation and control engineering from Shanghai Railway University, Shanghai, China, and the Ph.D. degree in traffic information engineer and control from China Academy of Railway Sciences, Beijing,  China. He is a Professor with State Key laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety (Beijing Jiaotong University). His research interests are in the area of intelligent transportation systems, railway safety guard and emergency management, rail network management and traffic model. He has authored or coauthored more than 100 publication papers and 5 books, also won 7 science and technology progress award of ministry. Dr. Qin is the vice dean and secretary general of Rail Transportation Electrotechnical Committee of China Electrotechnical Society, a member of the Intelligent Automation Committee of Chinese Automation Association, also a member of Fuzzy Mathematics and Systems Committee of Systems Engineering Society of China.

3. Changxu Ji

Changxu Ji, have obtained the Bachelor's degree of Engineering from institute of Military Transportation in 1983、a Master's degree in engineering in 1993 and a PhD in engineering in 1996  from Jilin Industrial University, completed a post-doctoral research at Beijing Jiaotong University. He started working in 1978, was promoted to associate professor in 1996, was promoted to professor in 2009, and become a PhD. tutor from 2010, received  Zhi Jin Teaching Award in 2005, been awarded "Outstanding Young Teacher”.

He is a Professor with State Key laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety (Beijing Jiaotong University). He is responsible for the completion two projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, published a Monograph in Rail Traffic Control and Safety field, published 37 academic papers, among them 21 papers recorded in EI and ISTP, and has a Patent pending . He got a National Science and Technology Progress Award, the Ministry of Communications' Advancement in Technology Awards , and two China Railway Institute of science and technology Award.

4. Xiukun Wei

Xiukun Wei received his Ph.D. degree from Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria. Currently he is an associate professor at the State Key Lab of Rail Traffic Control and Safety, Beijing Jiaotong University, China. From 2006 to 2009, he was a PostDoc Researcher at Delft Center for System and Control, Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands. From 2002 to 2006, he held a Research Assistant position at the Institute of Design and Control of Mechatronical Systems, Johannes Kepler University. He holds the post of reviewer in some International Journals, such as “IEEE Tran. On Control System and Technology”, "Automatica, International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing”, "Asia Journal of Control”, "Wind Energy”, and multiple academics at home and abroad. From 2011, he acts as the international program committee in “China control and decision conference”. Then in 2012, he was engaged as a member by “China electrotechnical society rail transit electrical equipment technology professional committee. His research interests include fault diagnosis and its applications, Intelligent Transportation System, Control theory applications in a variety of fields such as Rail Traffic Control and Safety, Transportation. He mainly engages in the basic theory research of application, includes the fault diagnosis of complicated systems and failure prediction technology, active safety technology and its application in rail transit system. He has published more than 60 papers in the fields of the system modeling, control theory, fault diagnosis, system identification, etc. He has published a monograph in fault detection and fault estimation, finished a textbook compilation, applied for 9 patents and more than 10 software copyrights.

5.Jianlong Ding

Jianlong Ding, Doctor, Professor-level senior engineer, the present hold of the general manager of Guangzhou Metro Corporation, Chief expert of the National 12th Five-Year Plan 863 theme project, bring forward unique insights and professional view in design, construction, operation and ancillary resources development of Rail transit system, then put these into practice and get peer widely recognition.

6. Guangwu Liu

Guangwu Liu, Professor-level senior engineer, the present holds of the deputy general manager of Guangzhou Metro Corporation, the leader of the National 12th Five-year Plan Science & Technology Pillar Program, has unique insights in urban rail traffic safety control and science and technology innovation, his technological research achievements  has got  peer widely recognition and promoted.
