Special Issue on Synapses

Synapses are the structure that permits a neuron to pass an electrical or chemical signal to another cell. A synapse is consisted of presynaptic, postsynaptic and synaptic cleft. Both the presynaptic and postsynaptic sites contain extensive arrays of molecular machinery that link the two membranes together and carry out the signaling process. In many synapses, the presynaptic part is located on an axon, but some presynaptic sites are located on a dendrite or soma. Neurotransmitters released from the presynaptic terminal diffuse across the synaptic cleft and bind to receptors located on the postsynaptic sites.

In this special issue, we intend to invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original researches and review articles on exploring synapses. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Chemical synapse
  • Electrical synapse
  • Neurotransmitters
  • Postsynaptic receptor
  • Response of the postsynaptic cell

Authors should read over the journal’s Authors’ Guidelines carefully before submission. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal’s Paper Submission System.

Please kindly notice that the “Special Issue” under your manuscript title is supposed to be specified and the research field “Special Issue – Synapses” should be chosen during your submission.

According to the following timetable:

Submission Deadline

January 29th, 2015

Publication Date

March 2015
