Special Issue on Integration of Theoretical and Applied Work in Brain and Behavioral Sciences

An important problem is the still very prevalent separation between theoretical basic-research work (philosophy, experimental psychology, theoretical modeling of the mind) and applied work (health, education). There is extensive work in both areas: A lot has been written about the nature of representations and the mind, and a lot has written about teaching and learning. But the bridge between the two is rather fragile. For example, the implications section of those who work on theoretical issues is often no more than an afterthought. And the theory section of those who work on applied issues is not always in line with important theoretical advances. The bridge needs to be solidified for progress to be tangible, for example by having researcher from the two camps partner up and write a paper together.

In this special issue, we intend to invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original research and review articles on exploring Integration of Theoretical and Applied Work in Brain and Behavioral Sciences. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Exploring the fine line between Empathy and Compassion
  • Enhanced attention without arousal - can it occur?
  • When autonomic functions come under volitional control
  • Mind-body practices and PTSD
  • Mental illness and behavioral problems
  • Behavioral neuroscience
  • Learning and motivation
  • Thoughts and behavior
  • Statistics and mathematical models of behavior

Authors should read over the journal’s For Authors carefully before submission. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal’s Paper Submission System.

Please kindly specify the “Special Issue” under your manuscript title. The research field “Special Issue - Integration of Theoretical and Applied Work in Brain and Behavioral Sciences” should be selected during your submission.
