ABSTRACT: Pantun is one of Malay oldest literary poems. Pantun was studied from various perspectives, including linguistic and semantic fields using qualitative text analysis. However, the number of pantun research in Malay language education with other approaches is still limited. Thus, Social Constructivist Theory and Malay Poetic Theory are discussed in this concept paper as two selected theories that can be used to study pantun in Malay language education. As a suggestion, a researcher can apply these theories through the Design and Development Research (DDR) approach to create models, modules, guidelines, frameworks, instruments, and product innovation for pantun in Malay language education.
