ABSTRACT:
The current study investigated climate and diversity issues
and how they contributed to students’ attitudes and experiences at a private
university for the deaf. A 40-item survey was administered to assess the global
perspectives regarding diversity. This scale was reduced to a 16-item scale
with four subscales using exploratory factor analysis, labeled Multicultural: Diversity is Enriching, Abstract
Liberalism, Cultural Racism, and Color-Blind
Racism. In addition, focus groups were conducted to investigate the local
perspectives of diversity of those who hold minority status within the overall
cultural milieu.
