Abstract: Thanks to the international banking experience over these years, we know that industry consolidation, including mergers and acquisitions are effective measures for modern commercial banks to enhance comprehensive competitiveness and international level, and effective means to expand the bank scale and develop the international market. As a leading commercial bank, Merchants Bank incorporated Wing Lung Bank, which was an important step for itself towards internationalization. With the help of event study methodology, empirical analysis, case studies and other methods, the paper systematically analyzes the motivation, cost and subsequent impact of the merger and acquisition.
