Abstract: This paper gives an empirical study on Shanghai Stock Exchange by introducing the interval- PROMETHEE method. Five performance criteria are used for measuring the growth potential of firms and are represented by interval numbers based on the real financial data. The interval-PROMETHEE method is applied to rank all the stocks of Shanghai Stock Exchange. The portfolio with the top 10 stocks was proven to have higher return within the 22-month investment period. The empirical study shows the effectiveness of the method in this paper.
