Abstract: |
The research on the text analysis has enjoyed growth since 1960s. However, as previous researches mostly focus on literary works in a broad sense, with few applying the case studies on tourist texts, the conclusions thus drawn may not be based on more foreign and Chinese viewpoints. Under the guidance of Halliday and Hassan’s theory of textual cohesion, the present thesis focuses on sample tourist texts as the corpus-based research and aims to make a contrastive analysis of the cohesive devices, in the expectation of exploring plausible translation strategies in order to facilitate intercultural communication and tourism economy globalization. The study starts with a case study of a pair of English and Chinese tourist texts released recently, elaborating on their employment of the five main cohesive devices. With these findings, the thesis aims to shed light on some possible translation strategies to contribute to local tourism industry.
