Abstract: This paper presents GIS-based safety analysis of the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments (PPACG) to improve transportation safety of road segments. The roadway segments were analyzed and compared based on the average of five factors, total number of crashes, total number of injury and fatal crashes, total crash exposure rate, injury/fatal exposure rate, and WHI from accident data. GIS-based maps which show segment network’s risk distribution in terms of safety scores for the five factors display the priority orders for the segment safety. The results can contribute to the improvement project implementation in the area.
