Abstract: In recent years, a great advancement in transportation in China has been witnessed. However, contrasted with transportation systems in developed countries, there is still a gap existing and the Chinese system is unable to meet the needs of the development of national economic and society. This research introduces the development process of transportation in China and US and compares and analyzes the comprehensive transportation infrastructures, economic foundation, the energy consumption and the developing process of passenger and freight transportation between U.S.A. and China. Then according to the American experience in the comprehensive transportation system development and Chinese actual status, the authors discuss the problems existing in Chinese transportation system. Finally the projects of transportation of the two countries are introduced, the rationality of the Middle-Long Term Plan for Comprehensive Transportation Network of China is analyzed, and the suggestions for China’s compressive transportation system development are proposed.
