Abstract: Since chiller is the equipment consuming substantial amount of electricity in tropical and subtropical hotels, it is necessary to strengthen the monitor on chiller electricity usage and the energy saving design of chillers. This study aims to model the relationship between electricity consumption and associated parameters of the chiller. A survey of 12 hotels in Hong Kongwas carried out to collect energy consumption data of chiller during air-conditioned cooling months. Regression analysis indicated that staff amount was a major and statistically accepted factor in explaining the electricity consumption of chiller in hotels. In addition, the paper also discussed some means and suggestion in reducing chillers’ power consumption.
