Abstract: Tourism is a complex process comprising many parts and interconnections. No model is perfect at all destinations and at all time. No matter Butler’s life cycle model, Plog’s psychology model, Destination-Market Matrix nor Chaos complexity theory, all of them have their merits and defects. With the development of tourism destination and changes of tourists, new theory is needed to analyze tourism evolution and promote tourism. From the tourism development of our destination—Hong Kong, we can get a notion of how the theory is applied or differ in reality. Based on the perspective of innovation in tourism product which extends the lifespan ofHong Kongtourism, this study explains the life cycle theory and its related literatures.
