Abstract: In this study, we investigated high school student’s Internet usage and skill differences resulted from different locations to use the Internet, i.e., home, school and Internet café. Data were collected through distributing questionnaires to the high schools in Xiangfan, a prefectural-level city of Hubeiprovince. By comparing those students samples who are using the Internet at different locations, we found that there are significant differences in Internet usage and skills among these groups. For the school group, students conducted more study activities, while for home and Internet café groups, leisure activities were conducted more frequently. Internet self-efficacy which included three components: browsing and search, message exchange and computer manipulation, was measured to reflect the actual skills. Results showed that for all the three dimensions of Internet self-efficacy, those students who only used the Internet at home have the highest level of Internet self-efficacy and those who used the Internet at school have the lowest level of Internet self-efficacy.
